"We have restored letters of nobility to this icon created by the local architect Charles Dalmas: space, light, perspectives… revealing its timeless beauty by enhancing its facade, so beautiful it now seems unreal."
"I was lucky to be entrusted with renovating this facade, a listed historic monument, usually reserved for a top architect from Monuments Historiques. A real honour! Each detail has been refined by craftsmen and Compagnons du Devoir so that the Riviera's magical light captures the stone to perfection.Every window frame was then enhanced. A silversmith's work…"
On entering, light unfurls in a geometrical re-arrangement. "We created high ceilings, streamlined the arches." The main entrance has retrieved its original colours, marbled stucco Art Deco columns from 1913, the gold leaf of its historic stairs. The floor is clad in Carrara marble tiles, and the bar has a bespoke raku ceramic counter by a local artist.
"Heading towards the inner patio, we kept a constant sea view for a magical play on cross-over views. Wherever your gaze rests, it basks in softness and dreams." The 20,000 sq.m extension surrounds the infinity pool and inner garden with arcades and a bar. "In Pistoia, in Italy, I selected each tree, 22,000 flowers and aromatic plants, strategically placed and replacing each other depending on the season and climate. Citrus trees and jasmine create a unique palette, an unforgettable Mediterranean fragrance. On inauguration day, people were awe-struck, tearful with emotion and joy… I think we won our bet to recreate the Carlton's soul and make it more resonant than ever."
