The teams of the Carlton Cannes contacted our agency while renovation was still underway. They were looking for a director capable of capturing the essence of this rebirth through a glamorous vision of hospitality. We were really delighted by this opportunity, marked by enriching exchanges, meticulous location scouting, and complex production. The film has in fact won awards at several international festivals.
"The Light" is an ode to the metamorphosis of the Carlton Cannes. Light symbolizes the spark behind this transformation, like a beacon out at sea concealing a treasure. The characters on the screen are drawn by this glow, twinkling on the horizon. They travel around the world in search of this coveted object until they arrive at their final destination: the Palace. This symbolism is also inspired by the unique light of the French Riviera, cherished by artists such as Jean Cocteau, Pablo Picasso, and Marc Chagall.
We wanted to immerse the viewer in the unique experience to be lived at the Carlton Cannes. The camera follows the characters' steps, seizing different precious moments – like fragments of life – in emblematic settings such as the Carlton Beach Club, the Penthouse, the pool, and the restaurants. The narration aims to be much more suggestive and emotional, punctuated by "perfect imperfections" which highlight the beauty of the decors. Through subtle, poetic staging, the narrative rouses curiosity and creates desire.
Already as a child, I admired its iconic facade from the Croisette. It is a magical place which, through its architecture and soul, perfectly embodies the spirit of the Riviera. It also owes its renown to the cinema, above all to the movie To Catch a Thief by Alfred Hitchcock (1955), with the cult duo Grace Kelly and Cary Grant in the starring roles. Its walls also resound with the echoes of the greatest stars who have ever stayed here.
