Flashback : "La Grande Dame", eternal confidante

Since its birth in 1913, the Carlton Cannes has become known as an icon of glamour on the Côte d'Azur. Its past is closely linked to that of the cinema, its walls serving as a backcloth for countless films. The legend of the Croisette has also played the part of a muse for a number of cult video clips.

1983

Two legends united in an epic hit
Elton John chose the Carlton Cannes' beach to film his famous hit "I'm Still Standing." In 2019, he caused a stir at the "Rocketman" film launch party at the Cannes Film Festival by performing at the Carlton Beach Club.

1990

Star in advertising clip
For the advertising campaign for Chanel's "Égoïste" perfume, Jean-Paul Goude created a memorable commercial: women in "haute couture" dresses proclaiming their frustration with an invisible man from the windows of a sumptuous hotel. The director borrowed inspiration from the palace in Cannes, recreating it identically! He in fact won a "Lion d’Or" for making this clip.

1993

Game of mirrors
Directed by Michel Blanc, who also played the main role, the film "Grosse Fatigue" (Prize for the Best Screenplay) traces the tormented life of a movie star, confronted by the sudden appearance of a look-alike determined to steal his identity. A fascinating face-to-face in the sumptuous decor of the Carlton Cannes.

1995

 In town and on screen
In the romantic comedy "French Kiss" directed by Lawrence Kasdan, "La Grande Dame" plays her own role. Exterior shots embody the protagonists' elegant pied-à-terre, while indoor scenes in the hall and brasserie provide an idyllic setting for their breakfasts.

2005

The embodiment of grace
The legendary setting shines in the "Quatre Étoiles" movie by Christian Vincent. It is about a young heiress, played by Isabelle Carré, who treats herself to a luxurious stay in the hotel, where she meets a crook portrayed by José Garcia. The actress wears a scarf around her head, a stylistic detail echoing the elegance of Grace Kelly, immortalized in "To Catch a Thief" (Alfred Hitchcock), a masterpiece filmed 40 years earlier at the Carlton Cannes.
